The role

As a Tool Maker, you will use your technical expertise to manufacture, repair, and improve extrusion tooling and associated equipment, helping to drive quality, efficiency, and innovation across our manufacturing operation.
 
This is an excellent opportunity to further develop specialist machining and tooling skills while contributing to the success of the business.

What you'll do

  • Manufacture, repair, maintain and improve extrusion tooling and precision-engineered components to support safe and efficient production.
  • Set, operate and programme a range of manual and CNC machine tools, including milling, turning, grinding and EDM equipment.Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and CAD models to produce components accurately and to a high standard.
  • Diagnose tooling and machining issues, support tooling trials, and implement effective solutions to improve performance and reliability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, productivity, cost reduction and downtime reduction.
  • Work collaboratively across departments while maintaining high standards of safety, housekeeping, documentation and compliance.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by the Manager from time to time.

What you'll need

  • Time-served apprenticeship in Toolmaking, Mechanical Engineering, HNC/HND, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Strong practical experience in manual and CNC machining.
    Competent in milling, turning, grinding, EDM/spark erosion, welding, and bench fitting.
  • Experience creating, modifying, proving, and optimising CNC machining programmes using CAD/CAM software.
  • Ability to develop machining strategies, select appropriate tooling, generate toolpaths, and optimise machining performance whilst maintaining required quality standards.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tool technology, work holding methods, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Ability to identify tooling, machining, and process issues and implement effective solutions through systematic problem-solving.
